Updated Ideas

In our last Collaborative session, the studio discussed which ideas we would like to focus on in terms of developing our skit ideas. We all liked the idea of World's Worst Parents, World's Worst New's Anchor, World's Worst Student and World's Worst Documentary. Thinking realistically, The News Anchor idea isn't that original. When I think of comedic news anchors I automatically think of 'Anchor Man', 'Evan Almighty', and 'Bruce Almighty' Our studio was struggling to flesh out this idea, so we moved on to the next idea of World's Worst Parents. A couple ideas we had regarding this concept were:

• Looking at different perspectives from both parent and child- the child thinks that their parents are the worst parents in the world for not letting them do things like eating ice cream before bedtime. This isn't a big deal to the parents, but for their child, the world feels like it's about to end. From looking at both perspectives this could give our group the chance to experiment visually, the children's world would look very different compared to the adults.

• Parents overhyping their children, boasting in front of other parents, giving their child certain expectations when the child is actually very badly behaved.

• Worlds Worst Mum - A mother thinks that she is the world's worst parent, she's constantly making little mistakes that can look humorous such as, making breakfast for her child and accidentally fall and pour milk over her child, embarrass her child in front of their friends, etc. 

The problem we all felt regarding these ideas was that there was no punch line, there isn't enough humor. We were struggling to think of quick funny ideas that could work well as a short skit. We needed to think of more ideas that were more fast paced and funnier. This was a similar case with the idea of 'World's Worst Documentary and World's Worst Student. Here are our ideas:

• World's Worst Documentary - An explorer on a mission to find a hidden City or Artifact. On the journey, he encounters every hardship you could think of (bad weather, floods, hurricanes, wild animals) and has extremely bad luck for the entire trip. When he finally arrives at the destination, the city either doesn't exist, or the artifact has already been stolen. Meanwhile, a David Attenborough-esque voice is narrating the entire video.

• World's Worst Student- A student that hasn't adopted the "student life" They are not necessarily a bad student academically, however they are put into many awkward situations by their peers. Another idea is that we could make an informative video on how to not be the World's Worst Student, and show comedic examples of what a bad student is.

After discussing these ideas with Alan, we voiced how we are struggling to think of a fully developed concept. We had lots of little ideas like the ideas I have mentioned previously, and ideas like 'World's Worst: Firefighter, Security Guard, Actor, Singer'. Alan suggested that we think about videos like 'Watch Mojo' that make 'Top Ten' style videos.

We're now going to focus on finding influences that could push us in the right direction, and also discussing ideas more thoroughly because we need to finalize ideas as soon as possible.
