Starting Ideas: Discussed, Rejected, Kept

DISCUSSED IDEAS:

NOTE TO RACHAEL: for this part of the OGR I think it would be better to have 3 separate pages for the discussed, rejected and kept ideas. The first page could be just a collage of the list above? Below I've typed up some text that could also be used if you're not keen on the first idea.

Once our team received the orange envelope, we immediately generated a list of characters that we thought would fit the theme of 'World's Worst'. The early ideas we gravitated towards involved real-life situations e.g Speed Dating, Parents, Students, News presenter. We also discussed looking at different perspectives like looking at the perspective of both the parent and the child.

In-depth descriptions of early concepts (copied from Updated Ideas Post):

World's Worst Parents:
  • Looking at different perspectives from both parent and child- the child thinks that their parents are the worst parents in the world for not letting them do things like eating ice cream before bedtime. This isn't a big deal to the parents, but for their child, the world feels like it's about to end. From looking at both perspectives this could give our group the chance to experiment visually, the children's world would look very different compared to the adults.
World's Worst Documentary:
  • World's Worst Documentary - An explorer on a mission to find a hidden City or Artifact. On the journey, he encounters every hardship you could think of (bad weather, floods, hurricanes, wild animals) and has extremely bad luck for the entire trip. When he finally arrives at the destination, the city either doesn't exist, or the artifact has already been stolen. Meanwhile, a David Attenborough-esque voice is narrating the entire video.
World's Worst Student:
  • World's Worst Student- A student that hasn't adopted the "student life" They are not necessarily a bad student academically, however they are put into many awkward situations by their peers. Another idea is that we could make an informative video on how to not be the World's Worst Student, and show comedic examples of what a bad student is.
Compilation Video- 'World's Worst...'

A 'Top Ten' Compilation style video that includes lots of different types of characters that fit in with the theme of 'World's Worst' such as:
- Firefighter
-Singer
-Actor
-Superhero

REJECTED IDEAS:

Reasons Why the idea was rejected:

News Anchor :

- Not original/ already been done ( Evan & Bruce Almighty. Anchor Man).
- Difficult to fit in with the 'World's Worst' Theme.

World's Worst Parents/ World's Worst Documentary:

- No punchline, not enough humor.
- Needed to be faster paced
- Overdone Storyline

KEPT IDEAS:

After discussing all the previous ideas with our Tutor, The idea we've kept is an amalgam of a few of our early concepts. These concepts being World's Worst Superhero (derived from the compilation video concept) and two of the early 3-panel comic strips from the same concept)

This sparked the idea of 'Fashion Man' A skit about A superhero that puts his views of fashion over the safety of the city's citizen's, making him possibly one of the world's worst superheroes.
